Jesus replied that the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the
Sabbath. By following the letter of the Law, His accusers violated the
spirit of the Law (loving your fellow man), since they accused him of
breaking it when he was healing (showing love) on the Sabbath. Their
accusations were made with hearts of stone.
