It depends on what is meant by 'choppy'.
Some Windows comm programs may have the terminal screen positioned in
the middle of a video byte. This can slightly slow down the scrolling
because it can't be done with a full byte along the borders.
Some Windows comm programs try to smooth scroll the screen and may get
behind. When that happens they'll 'jump' to updating several lines at a
time and the scrolling can seem choppy or jumpy.
Some Windows comm programs scroll the screen a full line at a time, like
DOS does. Telemate is one of these, and as a result, can be one of the
faster scrollers.
However, many people, including myself, have noticed video problems.
With me, even on a clear screen and simply doing a AT&V to the modem
will cause the displaying to be 'jumpy' where it will print a couple of
lines, pause, print a couple of more lines, pause, etc. If it also has
to scroll at the same time, it could be considered 'choppy'. At the
moment, there is no fix. I don't think anybody is sure why it even does
it on some but not on others. It's not a matter of how fast your
computer is or how much memory because I've heard that some have had the
problems on Pentiums with 16meg and PCI video. TMW is only a 1.00
release though, so there will be some problems until the next version.
