Poor old Bob. Its hardly very surprising that its quieter than the
local modem. What he should be doing is calling an M34F or a USR
AT THE OTHER END and seeing if there is a measurable difference.

And its not that easy to measure with a cro either with the common mode
problem. It may well be very difficult to work out just what is the V34
line test phase from the other end modem too, let alone the massive
problem with the fact that your own modem is transmitting too.

The short story is that thats a lot harder to do than you might think.
