Although 'parallel' computing doesn't mean quite the same thing as parallel
electrical circuits, perhaps this will help...
Picture two bulbs in a series circuit across a battery. Current has to flow
through one bulb before it can flow through the next. In a parallel
circuit, current can flow through either bulb without having to flow
through the other. In a true parallel computer, data can flow through (be
processed by) one processor without first having to flow through another
one.
...that said, the term 'parallel processing' seems to
be applied to many situations where more than one processor work together
on a problem (even if they're not 'parallel' in any strict sense).
