The current version is insanely expensive, however I'm running V3 which had
no per seat fees because at the time they hadn't thought of using it like
this.  If I were doing it today I'd be looking for something else
and I can assure you that we WON'T be upgrading..

Yes, but it depends on the settings you use to create the PDF. For example
distiller can be set to leave the images at 226dpi or drop them down to
71dpi. Makes a huge difference in the file size of the PDF's it generates.

pdf is completely self contained, It's just like handing someone a
postscript file and fonts.
