 "Portability of number" from company-to-company is an FCC
 rule and regulation that applies nationwide, as long as
 you remain within the same exchange/CO.  It doesn't allow
 you to take a number from NYC to Los Angeles, nor even L.A.
 to San Francisco.

 But just last week the FCC applied that R&R for switching
 from landline to wireless.
