Is a TEASPOON enough? For a 1000 lb. horse?
Mrs. B claims that here, in Arizona, to keep the horses' salt intake up,
we should feed a few teaspoons of loose table salt DAILY. I have to admit
it's not something I do, partly as I don't feed them (Lori does) and partly
as I never see that they have a problem with getting enough salt. They have
two blocks, a mineral block and a salt block in their pens, and both get a
lot of use.
The only one I worry about is Dub, who sometimes is low on electrolytes
- but the vets assure me that salt won't fix that, I just go over to Turf
Paradise and get some race horse electrolytes.
