subject: what do I have here?

RJT> Snagged this board, and I thought it was just gonna be
RJT> another socket 7 board, but it seems there are some
RJT> surprises at hand here...

RJT> First off, what I took to be the typical "intel inside"
thingy on one of
RJT> chips -- on a heatsink, which should've tipped me off --
RJT> was "Video Inside"! The rest of what's on there is "TX PRO
RJT> II". There also seems to be a 2x8 pin header on the board
RJT> near the power connectors (both AT and ATX ones are
RJT> present) but there's nothing else that seems to be
RJT> connected with video, no idea what the specs might be,
RJT> and no apparent way to disable this, if I wanted to. (Not
RJT> sure yet if I want to or not.)

RJT> There's a PS/2 pin header up by the keyboard connector I'm prepared for wi
RJT> the right adapter, and a pair of other pin headers nearby
RJT> along that back edge of the board for what must be the two
RJT> serial ports, and the parallel and floppy interface
RJT> connectors are about where I'd expect them, between the
RJT> ram and the first PCI connector. But the two IDE
RJT> connectors aren't there -- they're all the way down at the
RJT> bottom end of the board, below the CPU chip.

RJT> In between the first and second PCI connectors is another
RJT> pin header, 2 rows by 9 pins long, missing one pin. I
RJT> have *no* idea what this one is for, anybody know?

RJT> Then down near the bottom edge of the board, I get another surprise --
RJT> there's a chip next to the BIOS part that says "Sound Pro"
RJT> on it -- I apparently have onboard sound too? There's a 2-
RJT> pin header near that chip, only marked as "JP10", and
RJT> another 2-pin header, a 4-pin header, and a 4-pin
RJT> connector with white plastic shell of the type commonly
RJT> found on sound cards, which I'm assuming is for cdrom
RJT> input. Also a 10-pin header. No idea what all those are
RJT> for, either. There's another pin header labeled for the
RJT> game port, as well.

RJT> Then there's a 3-pin header on the other side of the sound
RJT> and BIOS chips labled "12V JP1 5V" with a jumper across the
RJT> last two. And one following that, 5 positions with the
RJT> middle one empty, marked "1 2 J1 4 5".

RJT> Only ID I can find on this board is a sticker on the last
RJT> ISA slot, that says
RJT> "MW84321402 Made In China", which ain't telling me much.

RJT> I just realized that what they gave me for headers doesn't include anythin
RJT> for the onboard stuff, just the standard serial and
RJT> parallel connectors, and that's it. And I called them,
RJT> and can take it back tomorrow if necessary...

RJT> Your comments on this odd board?

Sounds just like the PC-Chips M571 I have sitting on my lap.

The BBS goes into maintenance mode in a minute... I'll put the specs
in a later message.
