CB> Gee, Matt, private hospitals routinely refuse to treat people with no

We don't have any "public" hospitals here, nor in most places (including
big cities) that I've lived in...not in the sense of any hospital owned and
operated by a governmental agency other than VA.
Poor people get care one of two ways: vouchers (called Medicaid), or just
defaulting on bills. And believe me, hospitals do give a lot of unplanned
charity care to deadbeats!
CB> Would not the same happen to children whose parents have no

We've got a mix of for-profit and non-profit hospitals, and there seems
no great demand here for a N.Y.C.-style government-owned hospital. And the
fact that few localities in this country are within 50 miles of a city-owned
hospital hasn't created Calcutta.
Tell me why it wouldn't work the same for K-12.
CB> If education is an industry now, can we use Deming's management?
Only if it works./
