Hi Wanda,
G³ I would sure like to have a few mags, as I don't know a lot about
WG³ crafts, especially basic things. No one in my family ever did
WG³ crafts, so I never learned anything about them growing up. My
WG³ interest in crafts has just been in the last couple of years.
I know what you mean. We never did crafts in my house either. I never
thought I could do anyting artistic until I started watching craft shows
and experimenting with things. Now I'm a crafting lunatic.
I don't have any books I can send you, but I know one that I'd like to
recomend because it is such fun. It is called, "Fabric Applique for
Home and Fashion." It's a magazine looking book, but this particular
one is all about using Mod Podge. Any craft store should carry it.
WG³ I am interested in recycleing household items for crafts, sea-shells,
WG³ frames, baskets, making angel items, lapel pins, etc. I am not
Thats what crafting is all about isn't it? It so fun to scrounge around
the house and recycle used things into pretty new things.
I made some really nice baskets using Mod Podge. You could also use
liquid laminate. Mod Podge is just much cheaper. I had some napkins that
were really pretty and I cut out the flowers on them and then applied the
mod podge to the basket and then to the napkin and put the cutout on the
basket. I eventully bought some napkins at a sale and started cutting out
leaves and peppers and sea shells and made all kinds of baskets. It is
really easy and economical and I filled them with various things and gave
them as gifts. Everyone loved them.
I probably didn't explain that very well because I'm so tired. I can do it
over if you want me to. I also used the same technique to decorate small
straw hats. Then I graduated to using material. I cut out flowers and or
fish and mod podged them to canvas bags. They came out really nice and
everyone I gave them to loved them.
It's also fun to stencil onto canvas bags and then you can personalize the
bag.
I think we just need to find a few things to use to get us started and then
the immagination takes over. For me it was the Mod Podge. It was so much
fun to work with and so easy.
I've glued the shells to cards and recently I found a small wooden
treasure chest that I had bought very cheaply at Wallmart. I cut out
shells from a napkin and liqid laminated them onto the outside of the
chest. Then on the inside I put hand selected shells that I had collected
myself. I sent it as a gift to a dear friend of mine in North Carolina.
She was thrilled with it.
I think shells would have been great glued with modge podge or Aileens
super tacky glue onto the outside of the box. Also a few shells, some
napkins and some kind of plant life on a small straw hat would make a neat
creation.
Just let you imagination go and start looking at everyting as a potential
craft object.
Heck some of the people here use styrafaom meat trays to make pins and
earrings. I don't do it, but I know several people here do.
Have fun!!!
Val.....
