I was looking at some old RR maps and have a few questions regarding RRing
in the Kentucky/Indiana/Tennessee area:
When did the L&N (or CSX) begin abandoning the Lebanon Junction to Sinks,
or Lebanon Branch, of the railroad?
Does CSX still operate any part of the old L&N P&M Sub? If so, what is the
Northern terminus today? I know it no longer runs into KY and (at one
time anyways) that portion was part of the Kentucky and Western Tennessee
RR. This is the line that used to run from Paducah through Paris, Bruceton,
Jackson, and into Memphis. I am assuming the line from Clarksville, TN,
through Paris and Humbolt and on to Memphis is still active.
I had heard that, at one time, CSX was considering abandoning all or a
portion of the former Monon between Bedford, IN, and Louisville, diverting
traffic for this route onto the Louisville-Cincinnati "Short Line" and
back into Indiana over the former B&O. Is this the case?
Finally, when did the Elizabethtown and Paducah RR become part of the IC?
When was the line from just west of E-town to Louisville completed?
Sorry for the 20 questions!
Mike
