Hi Ken,
You mentioned to Bonnie that you believed that Monster Cables,
especially early manufactured ones, were subject to problems due to excessive
capacitance, and were not intended for long runs beyond a few meters.
I always looked to the original Monster Cable as the plain vanilla
heavy cable answer, with good service for almost all applications. Nothing
fancy. Just fine stranded, heavy copper wiring. No magic, injected light or
liquids, green penned ends or anything of the sort. I have used it for
internal wiring on almost all my speaker projects (good and lousy) AND (what
I am now curious about) for a 15 plus meter run (up, over and around) for my
rear surrounds.
Have I again found myself sword fighting with Zorro, and unknowingly
introduced what could be a source of signal degradation or noise into my
system? If not Monster Cable for my "plain vanilla heavy cable applications",
then what would you use?
Some time ago someone here in the Echo suggested using the cable used
by stage musicians like electric guitar players. He said it was extremely
well made, would hold up to almost anything, and was of sufficient thickness
to carry the full signal, and could be purchased by the foot at a reasonable
price.
Cheers, John
