Hi, Bob;
BA> Incidentally, the 6146 tube is basically the same as the 807 and the

BA> configuration and plate dissipation ratings. Those with plate caps are

I'm not sure I agree completely. I have long since separated from all my
old tube manuals, so I am working from memory here.
I do remember the 6L6... Beam power pentode, 6.3V heater, octal base, and
depending on the version, (metal 6L6, glass 6L6G, 6L6GT, 6L6GTA, etc), a
maximum of 18 watts plate dissipation for the GT* versions. These are
still popular for high quality tube-type audio amplifiers, though all the
recent Ham equipment I am aware of is all solid state.
The 5146 and 807 "bottles" were popular HF transmitting tubes for many
years, which, as I recall, are much better suited for that purpose than
for audio use. I'm not sure why, unless it has to do with such factors as
plate impedence, or the fact that there isn't too much call for the
somewhat higher power that these types are capable of. Also, 6L6's have
always been more redilly available on the open market than the types
designed for transmitting service.
Please correct me if I'm wrong...
Catch you later... Many gud QSOs to you!
