MIÇI've never really like the headrest speaker idea (Fiero did it too, years
Çago). The very concept f***s with the notion of "accurate" audio
lacement
Çand imaging.
Matt,
I concur. The only thing it does for you is to give you the mid-high
sound (usually distorted) when travelling top down at highway speeds
(here 75mph +).
MIÇI'd probably start by replacing the door speakers with some good ...
(snip)
MIÇlook at the door locations to see if shallow 6.5s couldn't be
massaged in there somehow; the extended bass response would
make a significant difference for those summer highway cruises :)
The majority of 6.5" speakers will fit into the available 5" cutout
without a problem!
Appreciate the feedback! Glad to hear you too appreciate vintage
home audio gear. I've been real lucky. For example that Nakamichi
Dragon cassette deck climbed to near $3k retail before being
discontinued. Got mine for $500 from a poor marine who not only
overspent overseas (he paid the military exchange price of $1500 at the
time) but returned stateside to find his wife had quit her job to boot.
All I needed to do was invest $50 to correct the automatic azmiuth
(SIC) adjustment which was a factory problem on the first two
production batches (the correction motor could overdrive and hang up
at either maximum travel range). It's performed flawlessly ever since
and that's well over a decade.
Take care!
