I find it very easy to just hold the vendor responsible for whatever it is
they provide as part of the product. Seems perfectly fair to me for one
reason, if I buy product X from vendor X, then I don't want to be told I
have to deal with vendors D, E, H, T, V, Y, and Z to keep it patched.
That would be like buying a TV from Sears then when it breaks having Sears
tell you that first you have to figure out what part broke then if it's a
chip from Boner Electronics call Boner support and get a patched chip.
As OS have been consumerized there is no way crap like that is gonna fly.
