JR>-> Where are you located? I'm in Fla and summers are hot, but some birds
JR>You can't get too much further south than I am...So. Dade, Miami,
JR>Fl..I've been breeding Tiels for many years and I can speak from much
I am NORTH of you. In Green Cove Springs, which is about 30 mi south of
Jacksonville on 17. At 17 & hwy 16 actually.
JR>frustration and experience...I have actually had times when the birds
JR>did not even have to sit the eggs it was so hot...As far as I am
Had that last summer. The Blue Front Amazons didn't actually sit their
eggs half the time and still hatched and raised all three of their eggs.
It was so hot that they didn't have to sit them. I think they just
turned them.
But many of mine especially the larger birds, naturally have a summer
breeding season. So I don't dare stop them from breeding. The tiels and
budgies all seem to want to breed from a little before now, from when
it's cold til the early fall when they seem to stop for a while on their
own. They taper off a little bit when it's hot but not much.
JR>concerned it stresses them out too much, not to speak of the bacteria
JR>and fungus...and I maintain what you would call a super clean
JR>environment.
Oh, god, those nestboxes in the summer. They smell (outdoors) like a
locker room.
