DJ> Im seeking a tune that I recall hearing back in 75 or so on the radio,
DJ> from around 66-67, by the group the great society called apropretly
DJ> enough"THE GREAT SOCIETY" It mocked the so called "great society"
DJ> envisioned by LBJ, and I've looked high and low for a cd,album or 45 of
DJ> it,with NO success! I've heard it may be on the sundazed series. Can any
DJ> tell me where I can find a relitivly inexpensive copy of it? I suspect
DJ> its one of their unrealesed tunes that found its way onto a few radio
DJ> stations in the 70s. I really liked it.
I don't know where you'll find a copy of the album, but I can tell you
a little about the band. The key players were Darby Slick and his sister
Grace. They were part of the San Fransisco music scene, and recorded one
album. When Signe Solne quite the Jefferson Airplane, Darby's sister
Grace was called on to replace her. Grace brought with her a song she
and her brother wrote and recorded with the Great Society called "White
Rabbit". After the Jefferson Airplane had a few hits, the record company
that owned the rights to the Great Society's first, last, and only
record re-released it and sold a few copies. It was sort of like that
Curtis Knight album that Jimi Hendrix did some minor session work on
that was re-released with the note "File under Jimi Hendrix".
And, to get this reply on-topic, both the Great Society and the
Jefferson Airplane had some proggish-sounding songs on their albums. And
many members of both bands used to listen to Prog-Rock from time to
time.
