Pressed DVDs will likely last long, writable DVDs use organic material, so they are subject to the same problems that writable CDs are. No doubt we will soon see el-cheapo DVD brands that just barely fit acceptable standards. You can see that with el-cheapo CDs now - I have some here that were written about 8 months ago that are NOT readable in all of the CD/DVD drives I have. My Toshiba DVD-ROM cannot read some of the files on them, the Ricoh DVD burner still can (lucky me); so I used the burner to read the discs and created a new DVD+R from the contents.
