Today I'd use molybdimum disulfide instead, also drys.
Speedo and tach cables screwed into the instruments
and I never lost one I'd lubed.

Should have seen the day we lost the throttle cable
wide open on a 200 H.P. speed boat while towing
a disabled shrimp boat into a very tight marina.

First almost getting cut in two by the tow line
and then pulling off the cover and manually
opening the trottle and operating the advance by ear
with my hand about an inch from the spinning geared flywheel
in the chop in the Gulf of Mexico.

Steve and Phil complained about the cost of a new throttle
cable so I said I'd splice it back together for them.
Neither believed that would work and I'd some doubts myself but
I managed to do it slick enough it did work :-)
