-> Hi Kit...I didn't want to quote everything. I just wanted to let
-> you know that I agree w/ everything you've said in this message and
-> the previous two.
->
Thank you. I appreciate the courage that it takes for one to stand up
and be counted on this side of the issue. I'm sure there are others on
here that have agreed with me but have keep silent because of how I was
treated for what I said.
->
-> You know, it's not only the copyright infringement that bugs me.
-> It's the fact that he goes into a store and buys 10 copies of the
-> same movie. What if those are the last ten? What if some parent had
-> intended to buy such and such movie for their son or daughter, but
-> couldn't cause some guy just shoved the last 10 copies into his
-> shopping cart? I saw a few copies of the "Aladdin" video at
-> Wal-mart after Christmas. I was like "Cool! I get paid in a couple
-> of days--I can finally buy it." Guess what. They were all gone when
-> I came back a couple of days later. Now, hmmmm... could it be that
-> someone like John came in a scooped up the last few copies?
->
The whole thing bugs me. Creating an artificial market by buying up the
available copies so that you can dole them out at your price keeps
product out of the hands of families and people that can only afford the
normal price. We have a whole generation of children that can't watch
"The Little Mermaid" on home video because their parents were scooped by
people who want to sell them for $150. Is it any surprise that the "Toy
Story" Deluxe Edition Laser Disc retailed for $125 when Disney saw the
prices others get for their videos? My videotapes of "Peter Pan" and
"The Little Mermaid" were stolen right off of my person and sold for a
huge price by thesde types of people. They were bought and paid for and
well loved. Somebody who didn't love them stole them, waited, jacked up
the price and made a small fortune. Why? Because he saw the prices some
people charge and knew he could get it.
-> It's greed, pure and simple. I'm behind you all the way, Kit.
Right. In America we like to make pure greed into a good thing and put a
name on it like "Free Enterprise". As far as I'm concerned that should
be the name of a Star Trek movie - not an excuse to make money off of
something you don't own. Our free enterprise system has rules and laws
that govern it. When people pay attention to those rules and laws they
make a fair profit in a fair market. Otherwise they make vicitms.
->
-> By the way, can you do Netmail? The board I'm on right now doesn't
-> get Netmail, but I'm currently waiting for the other board that I
-> get some other echos on to add this. They have netmail. Better
-> yet--do you have an Email address? If so, please contact me at
-> Keiko@pixelation.com.
Of course I can do NetMail. Just address a message to Kit Ballantyne or
SYSOP at 1:311/57.0. Internet E-Mail, however, is still cheaper (my
NetMail system calls long distance to deliver my messages). My Internet
E-Mail addresses are: KITB@WOLSI.COM and KIT.BALLANTYNE@KINGCOME.ORG.
The first one sends E-Mail to my internet account and is 100% fast and
reliable. The second one sends the E-Mail into my InterNet E-Mail echo
on my BBS, takes longer to get to me through the delivery system and is
not nearly as reliable.
I just want to say what a joy it is to watch classic Disney movies. It
is a delight. I hope no one ever takes away that joy.
