>Hi. I do not much about Visual Age. Can it be used to write apps that >will run under Win 95/NT? What database engines are available for apps >pgming? Can anyone recommeend pgming books for Vissual Age - including >3rd party books. Pls - sources if you have them. Thanks. JVE> Visual Age - an IBM product, this means... JVE> 1 - You can only write applications for OS2 or IBM related O/S DM>Wrong. Visual Age is available for Win95 and WinNT as well. However, DM>you have to buy the compiler for Win95 - unlike Watcom, the DM>cross-compilers aren't available with the "normal" package. DM>You buy each one seperately. JVE> 2 - Only IBM supported database engines are allowed, i.e: DB2 DM>That would be cool. However, it's impossible: if I write my own DM>database, or if I get a library for another DLL or whatever, I DM>can use it: it's still C++. DB2 support, however, is likely to DM>be built-in or perhaps just well-tested. Darin, you do understand that he is simultaneously yanking your chain and pushing your buttons, don't you. It is just mock authority flame bait. For example all the third party database engine and file handler makers might be surprised at his statement; like Faircom, Sequiter, Trio systems, Raima, dSoft, Online data, Menai, etc. etc. most of which support OS/2 and windows with the same code function. I looked at his original response and just smiled. it seems like the makings of a language war to me and therefore not worth the effort. I would think that referral to Jonathan de Boyne Pollard' very good FAQ's would answer the C/C++ questions leaving the age old Pascal versus C/C++ versus PL/I versus Basic, which language is best, debate. --Lynn * SLMR 2.1a * "API" means "Another Proprietary Interface" --- DB 1.39/004485* Origin: The Diamond Bar BBS, San Dimas CA, 909-599-2088 (1:218/1001) SEEN-BY: 50/99 270/101 620/243 625/160 711/401 409 410 413 430 808 809 934 SEEN-BY: 711/955 712/407 515 624 628 713/317 800/1 @PATH: 218/1001 3615/50 396/1 270/101 712/515 711/808 934 |
