Hallo Jan, Jan Van Eeden schreef dit aan Louis Rizzuto: JVE> Visual Age - an IBM product, this means... JVE> 1 - You can only write applications for OS2 or IBM related O/S No way! Most Visual Age product come in OS/2, Win and AIX flavors. JVE> 2 - Only IBM supported database engines are allowed, i.e: DB2 Nope. The Smalltalk version sure knows how to handle MS SQL Server 6.0 The ( Windows ) C++ version does have some problems with it, but ODBC is supported. JVE> 3 - Poor product documentation and no 3rd party books. Nope. I got the extended documention and it's huge. JdbP recommends a third party book called OS/2 C++ Class Library. I got it and it's good. The only drawback is the huge memory demands. I use a P5 64MB and it works like a chairm. JVE> 1. You can either consider writing an OS2 application in Visual Age JVE> C/C++ using resource editors, and that crap, taking you at least JVE> 5 months. If you use a 386SX 16Mhz with 8 MB, sure. JVE> 2. You can evaluate another compiler, so far the best compiler for JVE> OS2 I have ever seen is Speed Pascal, it`s brilliant! Pitty IBM JVE> does not learn from these people. No database support, no Speed Pascal. JVE> 3. Consider writing your applications for Windows. Using Visual Age for Smalltalk, C++, Basic or Cobol? Visual Age for Basic the the least visual of the product line. IMHO, it's not worth the Visual Age name. Toedeloe, Jorgen de Gier --- GEcho 1.00* Origin: Hoi!
