BG> I'm with Telstra at the moment, but will soon be changing to Optus,

You sure you want to do that ?

Certainly with modem calls pre 8am Telstra is much cheaper at 10.6c
a minute weekdays on Smart Saver than the Optus 20c alternative.

Its not quite that cheap if you do a lot of weekday evening calls and so
want to have the EDS instead, but still quite a bit cheaper than Optus.

Optus is only really cheaper on the weekend and not by much.

Corse there is no reason you cant split your calls too, as long as they
dont drop below the $30 per month that you need to trigger the SmartSaver.

BG> since being fucked around with my flexi-plan.

Yeah, they have significant problems. I make a point of ALWAYS calling
about my flexiplans after a week or so after a change and getting them
to tell me what they show for me. They do manage to fuck up about half
the time. They did this time too, the change was supposed to be done to
start 1-Feb when the plan detail changed. They managed to actually do
it on the 6-Feb instead, and I got a credit for the difference.

BG> Telstra have lost the plot, and can't even tell
BG> me what I'm paying for an STD call these days,

I just got a booklet a couple of days ago with the new stuff. Well over
a month after the changeover date which is pretty fucked. They said
something like 'since you were asking' etc in the covering letter. Not
clear if thats due to the flexiplan changes or just what triggered it.

BG> so fuck 'em, I'll go to Optus where I KNOW
BG> they only charge me 10c per minute off-peak.

Only on the weekend tho, NOT during the week, the big
downside with the new Optus plan. Thats a HELL of a
lot more than Telstra, particularly pre 8am weekdays.

Telstra have also been doing some spot sundays at 9c/min
too, which also has 15% off if you have a Smart Saver.

Corse your mail runs may be such low volume its all a
bit theoretical in dollars per month type difference too.
