   Sometimes, now, Keith, the amount of time that elapses between one Fidonet
message and another makes it difficult to resume a topic but here I think I
was observing the reality of the leap in being that was occuring from Homer 
o
Hesiod and from the Ionian thinkers to Plato and Aristotle which was opening
the western world to science in so many aspects.  Later differentiation in 
he
western world could so easily narrow the term revelation to the Israelite
dynamic of the discovery of divine force as a "one" beyond the old
polytheistic myth and forget that the discovery of reason was also a
"revelation" which did NOT lead to the establishment churches.  
nfortunately,
in the aftermath of the Hellenistic Age philosophical schools DID suffer a
diminution of the original leap (not an uncommon occurence in the real world)
and combined with the attempt to protect what they had against the ravages of
ecumenic conquests over old cultures a situation could arise in which a 
icero
could calmly view the various philosophical schools almost as venerable
religions.   I think that's something of what I meant.
