Paul, at 23:06 on Mar 18 1996, you wrote to Bill Grimsley ...

BG>> What a shame that the M34F/M34F connects were actually
BG>> demonstrably worse that either USR/USR or USR/M34F then.
BG>> So much for the theory that NetComm/NetComm would give the
BG>> best connects.  :)

PE>> How did you arrive at this conclusion?

BG>> Same way you do, Paul. I pulled some figures out of a hat.:)

PE> Oh.

BG>> atdt024361785 (Paul's M34F from another M34F)

BG>> Calling FROM my place, incidentally, where we already KNOW
BG>> that the line quality leaves quite a lot to be desired.

PE> I'm not sure we even KNOW that. When you call DD, you get
PE> good stats, which is evidence that your lines are good after
PE> all. No matter how good DD's lines are, if YOURS are fucked,
PE> then they should be reported as bad. However, I think we
PE> have safely ascertained that we don't as yet have a tool to
PE> determine line quality.

BG>> Terminal      : 57600  8 data bits  No Parity
BG>> Line          : 28800  V.34
BG>> Current EQM   : 024

BG>> I've absolutely no idea how Rockwell interpret their Eye-Q
BG>> Monitor reading, nor even what it means, so all I can do is
BG>> take notice of the manual when it tells me that values in
BG>> excess of 10 are very poor (10 "what's", BTW?). Therefore,
BG>> a reading of 24 would more than likely be atrocious.

PE> What is important is the following data on the SAME line:

PE> 1. M34F->M34F reported line levels
PE> 2. USR->M34F reported line levels
PE> 3. M34F->USR reported line levels
PE> 4. USR->USR reported line levels.

PE> We have already done 2 + 4 and proved that the USR does not
PE> measure line quality accurately.

PE> The results of 1 + 3 would tell us whether the M34F is an
PE> accurate tool for measuring line quality. I think I am the
PE> only person who can do that test, by me calling DD with the
PE> Courier and the M34F online.

PE> I will call DD now, and see what happens...

PE> An EQM of 15. Ok, now David, was that with the M34F online?
PE> If so, I'll drag up some old stats of the USR, and we will be
PE> able to determine whether the M34F is as fucked with it's
PE> EQM as the Courier is with it's ATY11 stats.

Nope, I took the M34F off about 18:00 (EST) and replaced it with the Sportster.
