BG> Since when have you been running V.34 ? BV> Since I decided to be a Yuppie like David Begley and bought a BV> SoundBlaster AWE32 PnP. DB> Yuppie?! Bloody hell, I asked for the *non* PnP version specifically DB> and still didn't get what I wanted!! :-) Yeah. Life's a bitch and then you marry one. BV> It insised on being installed at IRQ-5 which created a problem as my BV> Sportshoe was happily living there and was evicted by the PnP manager. DB> According to my reading of the docs, you should be able to live without DB> it (the PnP manager) and still run the AWE32 on a different IRQ, but as DB> I don't run a braindead operating system or a tricky-dicky internal DB> modem I didn't bother pursuing the solution any further. :-) :-) Nope, it don't work as advertised. Even though the Award BIOS reports that it has initialised it as a PnP card, the SB software fails to initialise it properly under DOS unless the PnP manager has been loaded. Fuck me. Another bloody 2k wasted for a useless device driver. The Adaptec drivers have grown to. Bloody Hell, someone ought to take these programmers who write device drivers and skin them. Anyway, you need to setup the PnP manager before you can load the device driver as it looks for a database or sumfin. I can assure you that there is no way known to man that the PnP manager will let you setup two devices with the same interrupt. BTW, all this crap about PnP is totall bullshit. You've still got to configure the stuff except now you do it in software and you have less control and bloated drivers lying around consuming valuable resources. Obviously Micro$haft played a part in this fiendish plot, it sux toxic waste. The world is being sold a crock of shit. BV> I'm not having any problems at all, I was ripped off. DB> Did you straighten out that microphone issue? Yeah. I bought a spare :( Hey. You never know, Bob's might go queer one day :) Cheers, Brenton @EOT: ---* Origin: TestPoint (3:711/934.7) SEEN-BY: 711/934 @PATH: 711/934 |
