They were known as the "interstitial" freq's for GMRS users. Limited to 5 
watts ERP. I dont believe in using repeaters when Im within a couple of miles 
of someone.

VHF marine and Aviation band is now license free. Remember what happened with 
CB's?
If you are landlocked see just how many police officers use them for walkie 
talkies in your area.

Hmmm, you apparently missed the NPRM about narrowing the 2 meter and 70 cm 
bands for commercial use. Must have missed it when they DID do that very 
thing to 220 band a few years ago too. 220-222 are not amateur freq's 
anymore.
