Universal Music Group agreed to buy DreamWorks Records for
undisclosed terms from the entertainment company formed by
Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen. Sources
said Universal would fold DreamWorks Records into its
Interscope Geffen A& &M label. DreamWorks Records was launched
in 1996 and is home to a number of established acts, including
Nelly Furtado and Toby Keith. The deal could help Universal,
the music industry's global market leader, retain its position
atop the U.S. music market if a proposed merger between Sony
and Bertelsmann is finalized
