I have one Focal 12v516 left from some projects a couple years ago. I
have always had wonderful luck with them, and wasn't aware that they were not
made anymore. Glad I hung on to it!
The design I am trying to duplicate is the old top of the line Hsu
subwoofer. Because of its' price it didn't get much play in the audio
periodicals. Instead the Model 10 is all most people heard about.
Duplicating the design will not be that great a feat as it is straight
forward without any magic math or claimed techno-miracles. Just straight up
good design and execution.
Because of the materials we are using we could brace it differently,
but I would much rather error on the side of "more than needed" than "to
little" or "too late". I hate trying to model and add fixes after the fact.
Even when it sounds right, somewhere inside I know it was an afterthought.
The Hsu of this design that I heard about one year ago was an absolute
killer sub. Although I prefer subs with drivers pointed directly into the
listening area, this one certainly got the job done and with bass to spare.
Yet, it seemed quite to be fairly easy for the amp to control to achieve the
accuracy I am looking for. I guess I will see for myself soon. I am hoping to
have more time in the near future to get this one going.
Cheers, John
