BG> Oh well, I've put the ball back in Joe's court now. It'll
BG> actually be rather interesting to see how he handles what he'll
BG> likely consider to be criticism of his beloved Couriers. :)

RS> And the response can only be described as pathetic, classic fob off.

BG> Let's wait for his response before you actually pass judgment,

We've SEEN his response, like I say, a classic fob off. Its possible
that continuing to demand answers may produce more than a fob off,
but he shouldnt have just fobbed you off in the first place.

BG> lest you start sounding like a zealot yourself.

You cant be a zealot commenting that someone has clearly be fobbed off.
He also did it to Paul, basically told him to go and fuck himself.

RS> There is some VERY fundamental problem there when calling
RS> ALL the non USR modems tried so far, and he just closes
RS> his eyes and hopes it will go away if he ignores it.

BG> Or he might have just decided that there's nothing wrong with
BG> USR's stats, and that Rockwell can go fuck themselves instead.

Pity that the real world aint that simple anymore. That stuff is
what a V34 modem USES to decide on what to do with the wide variety
of parameters it can adjust, it just aint good enough to close your
eyes to massive problems in those numbers and hope they will go away.

V34 is a STANDARD, its meant to allow interoperability between modems
from different suppliers. It just aint good enough to say that it
works between USR modems and so who cares about anything else.

BG> Seems you're pretty quick to want to heap the blame on USR too, Rod.

Fraid not, I'm not BLAMING anyone on where the fault lies, just
think it stinks that Joe just ignores the very clear evidence that
there is a significant problem there somewhere. It needs to be
resolved, and its USRs job to work out why their stats show such
a massive discrepancy when its not a USR modem on the other end.

With a proper modem standard it aint good enough to say
that it works with their own modem on the other end.

RS> Do you know of any V34 Motorolas you can call and see if its
RS> just Rockwell datapump modems affected or non USRs in general ?
RS> Probably Arfurs Camelot Swamp might be best. It would also be
RS> handy with its very good stats, just not having the full graph.

BG> Yeah, his is the only one which immediately comes to mind.

BG> Fortunately, I kept the logs for those two calls,
BG> so let's have a look at them again, shall we ?

RS> Basically means that the line probe data wart is a separate
RS> issue to the handshaking failures by the looks of it.

BG> Not only am I not 100% convinced that the USR's line probe stats are faulty

Its just a tad implausible that ALL those other non USR modems
are putting out the V34 line probe test at a full 6db below
what its supposed to be. Thats a HELL of a difference.

And it should be trivial for USR to actually resolve that issue
too, see if thats why the stats shift a full 6db like that.

BG> the more I think about it, the more I tend to believe them to be
BG> fairly accurate after all, and that Rockwells are the inaccurate ones.

Based on sweet fuck all Bill. Thats just zealotry.

BG> If you can PROVE otherwise, please do so. However, until then...

Its up to USR to get off their arse and answer that basic question
of why their stats are so dramatically different with a non USR modem
on the other end of the session. Thats what support is all about Bill.
