Why? ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
That being the short version.

I'm not saying there are no losses in the system.

The Sun appears to be doing well providing energy from fusion.

Last I knew fusion power had been achieved at break even
for a few moments with more promising results to look forward to
in future.

I'm just opposed to fossil fuels because I don't want Earth to come to
resemble Venus.

There are other renewable resources that could be used for power
generation, hemp for example, in some areas where three crops a year
may be harvested and burned for power generation.
Hemp's advantage over fossil fuels is next years crop uptakes CO2
produced by the previous years power generation through burning.
Also hemp grows in very poor soil under harsh conditions
where people may not care to reside residentially so
there's a huge amount of space could be devoted to it.
Still it's just the result of solar energy which is
produced by fusion. Why not use it?

Little of the Sun's total energy output reaches Earth with most
lost to space but even if there's energy lost why not use
it?
Conservation, alternative energy fuels, photovoltaics
along with many other potential energy sources appeal to
me.
Even the Sun one day will run down, become a red giant and
expand to envelop Earth in it's orbit but ITMT
why not take advantage of it or an Earthbound
synthetic analog of same?

Don't know about you but I don't plan to be here
in a few billion years down the road when the Sun
expands to encompass Earth's orbit.
