-=> Quoting Tom Walker to Mike Jones <=-
-> i heard Quentin Kopp (actually a supporter of smog II) is trying to
-> pass a law EXEMPTING all cars, by 1998, that are over 25 years old.
-> i believe there is a good chance it will pass, because by that time
-> a car either is 1) not driven a whole lot, and.or 2) it is taken
-> well care of and will pass on later levels. If the law is enacted in
-> 1998 it will immediately exempt any car built from 1966 to 1972
TW> I don't think that has any chance at all. The Stats are totally
TW> against it. That represents part of the Biggest single group of cars
TW> contributing to Major Auto pollution of the air, those manufactured
TW> before the Three Way Cat was mandated. It is a sticky problem.
Here in the state of Oregon any car made BEFORE 1975 is exempt and does
not have to go through the emissions testing stations. It used to be that
any car 20 years old or older didn't have to be tested but well... we all
know how well 1975/6/7 cars that have never had their engines rebuilt are
running these days.
