Darth Vader is more likeable than II/III MP> Anakin. That's a common complaint I have heard. Have you heard of the Ring Theory? It actually talks about the fact that the good guys turn out to be the bad guys, so it is 'jarring' to us on a deeper level. As for 'as if we already knew' - of course we knew he would become Vader! The prequels are NOT to be watched "first" but in release order, so of COURSE we know what he is to become. As for their friendship - I think that is explored more in the Clone Wars animated series.
