those
BS>Delphi abilities end ? Can we do full Delphi development in C++B as we
ow
BS>do it in the Delphi IDE ?
Having built a couple of projects in Delphi and played some with C++
Builder, I'll try to provide some information. However, please beware
that I have not used BC++ Builder all that much.
First reason for continuing to use Delphi is that Delphi is based on
object Pascal and C++ builder is based on the C++ language. If you've
any applications already coded in Turbo Pascal, you can probably port
them more easily to Windows through Delphi than through BC++
Second reason is that, to me, C++ Builder does not really feel like
standard C++. Properties which use strings use an ANSISTRING which has
assignment operators, etc. provided. But, in other areas, you'll use
null terminated character arrays. Personally, I'd prefer to have seen
them all use pointers to character for these.
Last reason is that, if I'm correct, BC++Builder does not allow multiple
inheritance like C++ does. This means that the core of the language is
basically Pascal with minor syntax changes. I'd really like if someone
else could verify this one. I'n not 100% sure about the lack of multiple
inheritance.
Finally, BC++ Builder contains a command line Delphi compiler. However,
you cannot do development in BC++ Builder in the same way you use the
Delphi IDE.
