JH> I'd like to have directories in UPPER and filenames in lower case and

personally I don't run OS/2 but this one works (runs without errors) for dos...
but since you ask...
JH> Anyone write a btm like this already?
how about this?
global for /a:-d X in (*.*) do (ren %x $rentmp$ %+ ren $rentmp$ %{at}lower[%x])
global for /a:d X in (*.*) do (ren %x $rentmp$ %+ ren $rentmp$ %{at}upper[%x])
I can't test it with LFNs either, you may need this, or something else to force
it to use LFNs:
dir /sba-d|for X in ({at}con) do (ren %x $rentmp$ %+ ren $rentmp$ %{at}lower[%x])
dir /sbad |for X in ({at}con) do (ren %x $rentmp$ %+ ren $rentmp$ %{at}upper[%x])
good luck.
