JS>Sometimes it takes a "mindless" flick to go to sleep by. A thinking man's

Gee, Jack. Calling a movie "mindless" is not calling those who like it
mindless. I think that everyone is aware that "one man's meat is another
man's poison." If, in your opinion, I'm going to be insulting someone by
calling some movie "crap," what with all the differing opinions on
movies displayed here, then we really become limited in what we dare
say. Please think this over.
Yes, CONTACT does require a little input from the viewer for
involvement. Most really memorable movies do require this. That doesn't
mean that "mindless" movies, those requiring no mental participation on
the part of the viewer, are necessarily bad - just that for a particular
movie it might be bad.
I agree with your assessment that STAR WARS was mindless. That didn't
step me from seeing it umpteenth times, and I don't feel insulted if
if someone calls it "crap." I'd be more than a little over-reacting if I
took that to mean someone thinks I have a "taste for crap."
Let's not turn this echo into an afternoon tea party where the nicities
of courtesy have to be observed to the umpteenth degree. Let the callers
"imply" what they will, and harrange those who are up-front insulting.
It is, after all, very easy to insult anyone in a manner you would find
very difficult to deal with due to its subtlty. For example: "do you
understand the point I'm trying to make?"
