At 158gr, that's a heavy defense load, deeper penetration than typical
home defense stuff (ie 125gr JHP). Police loads maybe. I know the
pistol chamberings for the SXT were of this weight, but the revolver
loads in the Black Talon/SXT were definately heavier penetrating than the
pistol ammo. Almost taylor made for handgun hunting.
I still like my 200gr XTP loads for my .40S&W. I get up to more than 500
ft/lbs, or less for more penetration. I also am going to work up some
maximum penetration loads using Sierra 190gr full profile jacketed
(little or no expansion).
WD>JS>Nice shot.

That's cooking, more like a handgun hunting round. My only concerns are
my relatively poor accuracy, not enhanced by shooting from a semi-auto.
Oh well, I'll just have to learn to deal with it.

I can't wait to get a .357. I'm still thinking of a Taurus 669 with full
rib & vent in a 6" barrel, but I'd also consider a Dan Wesson with an 8"
barrel (since I could eventually get a 3" barrel if I though it would be
useful), and maybe even get it in .357 max with a 10" barrel. :-) If
I'm going to power freak it, I might as well _power_ freak it, right?
Besides, in a 10" barrel with .357max, I might be able to get near
4000fps with my "propriatary" ultralight bullets.

Yeah, and I just had a hernia operation. Lifting is no problem, but
dragging stuff is still touch & go. :-( Just have to get one of those
4WD ATVs. Have to move somewhere where I can use it first though... :-(

Do you think a Dan Wesson would be stong enough in .357max? The longer
case would let me use less pressures overall. 1000 ft-lbs from a load in
the lyman manual with a 200gr bullet, and Lyman is quite conservation in
load data. Vihta Vouri's 3rd edition (pre-lawyer) lists 1600 with a
200gr bullet, and over 1900 with a 158gr. That's almost 1150 & almost
1300 ft-lbs respectively. Less momentum than a .44mag too, which is
better for me.

.35 remington. Or... Magnum Research make the cannon breach lone eagle
in 30.06, I think they even chamber it for .300 win mag now. But, for
the ultimate, let us bow our heads to J.D. Jones' .375JDJ. He claims 7
_feet_ of penetration in an elephant. Elephant hunting with a handgun.
This guy must have forearms like railroad ties.
