Hi Bj”rn,
Quoting: Bj”rn Felten to Robert Couture

Subject: International Coodinator
RC>> Your point? Zone 2 selectively ignored Policy when they allowed
RC>> ISDN nodes in.
BF> I'm a Z2 ISDN node, and have been so for more than seven years,
BF> with exactly the same setting and nodelist entry as now, save for
BF> the BinkP flag that I added a few months ago. Are you saying I
BF> shouldn't be allowed to be in the nodelist
But you also support V34 and Vfc. So what could be "the problem";-)
BF> I think you (and I've seen this hoax recently from a few others)
BF> are confusing matters with how they were for a short period of
BF> time, in the mid 1990s, when you could get an ISDN connection here
BF> in Europe, costing almost 1000EUR per month, but there were still
BF> no equipment available that could handle both digital and analogue
BF> connections, such as the ZyXel Elite terminal adaptor
No necessity. I use 2 separate devices for POTS and ISDN (same as about 7
years ago)
But 1000Eu / month ??
Typo? ;-)
BF> Indeed we were very eager to launch this new techonology here in
BF> Europe. Suddenly getting a factor two higher speed and sometimes
BF> even more, with less than half a second or so of "modem
That was a very big step forward in that time.
I didn't think it over and bought an ISDN connection almost as soon as it
was available.
Same with ADSL (2Mbps down / 320Kbps up)
BF> Well, some of us will go to any length to get the best possible
BF> connection with other fidonet nodes.
Yep. Because it is a hobby!
BF> OK to password out those that we do not like, effectively reducing
BF> connectivity.
And that is (IMO) _against_ Fido.
Fido is _pro_ connectivity.
Remember the 30bps, 75/1200bps and 1200bps modem?
I always went downstairs for a mug coffee, while downloading a file.
I had for monitor purpose a telephone audio amplifier downstairs, so I
could hear the data traffic on the line. When the noise was over, I went
upstairs again;-)
Those were the days....
Best Regards,
Herman Neut
