Hi all! _The Athletic Musician: A guide to playing without pain._ Paull, Barbara and Harrison, Christine. The Scarecrow Press, Inc. Lanham, Md., & London: 1997. ISBN 0-8108-3356-5 This book is designed to teach musicians how to prevent and manage injuries, presented in a unique format that combines sound medical protocol with a musician's point of view. Barbara Paull (MCSP, MCPA) is an orthopedic physiotherapist, and Christine Harrison is a freelance violinist and teacher. The book takes a simple but thorough approach to teach the mechanics of the critical joints for musicians, including such details as how to pick up an instrument case. Christine describes her career-stopping injury and explains the techniques Barbara used to resolve the problems. I found the material fascinating, and where the material discussed my own experiences it confirmed my own findings. Although the price is $45 Canadian, I highly recommend this rather expensive paperback! The fact that it is still in print suggests that others agree with me! :-) Cheers...
