Hi Stephen,
I have had extensive experience with Alpine and Sony, limited with
Kenwood, and very little with Clarions.
Of these, I have found the Alpine to be the most reliable.
The Alpine and Kenwood both have good sound quality and have
decent pre-amp output signal level if you are going to use an
amplifier. (This means less backround "hiss" or noise.)
The Sony decks have a lower gain when using the onboard, or
built-in amplifier, although the spec's usually have higher
power ratings. This means that the deck's volume does not
get as loud as the other brands. Why this is, I do not know.
But it's definitely quieter than the others, even at full volume.
As for the Clarions, I won't comment since I have not had enough
experience with them.
I personally am now using an Alpine, and am very happy with it.

Subj: Which Subs for a S-10?

I have a 96 Chevy S-10 pickup (reg. cab) and I was wondering what king
of subs I can put behind the seat. There is a jack storage on the
passenger side, but it does't take up that whole side. I was wondering
if I could fit two 8 or 10s behind the seat without moving it all the
way up.
Thanks, for any help.

Subj: R: Which Subs for a S-10?

Stephen Lowery is looking for subwoofers for his S-10...

Hi again,
As far as getting some subs to fit behind the seat, your best
bet for that would be some 8", since you don't really want to
move the seat forward. Larger subs will need a larger enclosure.
-
You essentially have two options.
One, you can look at the pre-made sub "tubes" or boxes, and try
them in your truck. (This can allow you to hear them in your vehicle
with your sound system, and decide which is right for you.) Or...
Two, you can find a stereo shop that can properly select and design
a sub enclosure to fit your vehicle, complete with the speakers
that will work best in the available amount of space behind your
truck seat. (To "properly design" a subwoofer system, they should
have access to a computer box design program, or at least show you
that they utilize the proper mathematical formulas.)
** If you opt for the custom designed sub, be wary of store employees
who tell you the best size box off the top of their head.
I have seen this done, and there is just no best size for a
particular driver or vehicle. (ex. 2 cubic feet for 10" speakers,
and 3 cubic feet for 12" speakers.)

If I can be of any further help, please reply.

Subj: Tweeter mounts

I was planning on getting two JBL one inch titanium tweeters for a 96
s-10 truck. I wanted to mount them between the visors and angle one
toward the driver and one toward the passenger, do I have to drill or
modify the truck to mount these?
Thanks for any help,
Stephen
