BV> Yeah. Life's a bitch and then you marry one.
DB> Your wife doesn't read your email behind your back, does she? ;-)

Actually, she does.

BV> Nope, it don't work as advertised. Even though the Award BIOS reports
BV> that it has initialised it as a PnP card, the SB software fails to
BV> initialise it properly under DOS unless the PnP manager has been
BV> loaded.
DB> Maybe the drivers are only required for the SB-supplied software;
DB> tried running something like a DOS game without 'em?

Nope. I don't play games and I haven't had time to do anything other than
install and test it. Now you might understand what I mean; I just don't
need a sound card. I must have been nuts buying it in the first place.
'twas the excitement of the new bits and all that. I out-yuppied myself :(

DB> Surely Windows wouldn't need the DOS drivers, so maybe you can just
DB> dispense with 'em?

Prolly. I'll see if I get the time to play this week-end. So far
I've only gotta setup and install (on-site) and NT server so that
they are running on monday morning. The setup is scheduled for
tonight with the install tomorrow (saturday). Then on Sunday, I've
gotta install the final part of a debtors module which is part of
my application from hell project. I've got a few reports to write in
between if and when I peaved with actually working. So it's looking
like a pretty quiet week-end. I want to get NT installed too, so I
should be able to fit it in. ... I'll get back to you.

BV> The Adaptec drivers have grown to. Bloody Hell, someone ought to
BV> take these programmers who write device drivers and skin them.
DB> :-)

No. Fair-dinkum. I'm serious. It is really starting to piss me off.
I was working on a project with a colleague that we spent a few
years on developing. When we started out the code was pretty basic
and over the years we added a great deal of funtionallity although
we didn't add anything until we found a way to speed it up and
shrink it beforehand. The end result was that we were continuously
reworking the same code and it was lean and mean. The jerks that
write stuff now never bother looking at their old stuff unless it
doesn't work. Lot's of times I doubt that they even bother then.

Cheers, Brenton
