How old is your Viva? I used to use a Viva 14.4 and had terrible
problems with errors and so forth on and off especially towards the end
of its use. It was because this particular modem had a 16450 UART
instead of a 16650 UART. I would check that. Here is the generic init
string Telemate created for the Viva modem as well as the 14.4 I
currently use. Maybe it can help, too:
ModemInit="AT S0=0 Q0 E1 X4^M~~~AT&C1^M~"
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This is the one I am using.
%% Init string for most modems
%% ModemInit="AT S0=0 S7=100 S9=12 S11=50 Q0 E1 M1 V1 X4^M~~~AT&C1^M~"
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This one was part of the tm.cfg file. I included it for the heck of it.
... You are partly 100% right. Samuel Goldwyn
