JF> NB> Can anyone Identify this Catfish, I purchased it about 15 months
JF> NB> ago when it was approx 1 inch long. It has now grown to about 6
JF> NB> inches in length. I'ts overall colour is Black, all fins have
JF> NB> Orange leading edges and it has horizontal rows of White Dots
JF> NB> from nose to tail, the dots get larger as they get nearer the
JF> NB> tail. All I know about it is that it is supposedly Pekoltia
JF> NB> Species and carries the number L28, any ideas, I would be
JF> NB> interested to know,
Hi Jim
JF>I looked in my "Baensch Aquarium Atlas 2". The closest I could come
JF>to the species was Peckoltia brevis. The common name given was
JF>Spotted Pecoltia. Only problem is that the picture is not at all
JF>like your description. It looks something like a pale Plecostumus
JF>(which is a name for a variety of fish.) The given maxium length is
JF>3 inches. So it is probably only a relative to yours. I could find
JF>nothing that resembled your description by goin on picture alone.
The fish I have is definitely not Peckoltia Brevis, a posting from a
Jeff McKee indicates that it might be Peckoltia cf. Angelicus which he
found in a book called AquaLog book of Loricariid Catfishes, this fish
was also numbered L28, the only difference being that mine has a black
body whereas his photo had a gold coloured body!
JF>Not much help I know but it is the best I can do. Maybe someone
JF>else will have more info
Thanks very much for your efforts on my behalf, much appreciated,
JF>See Ya
Cya.
