If the AS400 is anything like the RS6000, it's got more than one scsi channel...

My comment was aimed more at PC class machines where you get one scsi port
on the motherboard, on those anything over 3 drives isn't going to make
much difference because you max out the transfer rate of the scsi bus. The
drives aren't the bottleneck, the scsi channel is.
