subject: Question: concerning GPG and Files

SR>>> I am curious. I use GPG. WinPT and others every day and
SR>>> therefore download them. What is the chance of being able to
SR>>> hatch out the source for GGP and/or binaries, these are
SR>>> readilyn available on the net and as far as I can see, are not
SR>>> subject to any restrictions, export wise

ml>> GPG is a PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) clone, right? that public key
ml>> cryptography stuff that you can encrypt messages and stuff with?

ml>> i'm not sure how far the crypto regulation relaxation went...

SR> See my last to janis, the source is freely available.

from where? is it physically located in the USofA or somewhere outside
those boundaries? that's what i was looking at... if GPG were to be hatched
and travel into the USofA, it may be against the law for a USofA system to
further distribute it to locations outside the USofA or to even allow it to
be available for download from the web, ftp and telnet (as my site does all
files except beta area stuff it receives via file distribution)

SR> Of course the relaxation of rules is a query that I was
SR> concerned about. I don't think it would restrict winpt which is
 SR> a front end only.

agreed there... so the primary concern is if GPG source or binary can be
distributed from within the USofA to locations outside the USofA... what
clinton did, allows that, IIUC... however, this homeland security mess may
override that in some way ;-(
