you forgot one very important detail .. the mode was sold tot he oem at a 
price
that reflected the fact that the oem would be responsible for all after sales
servicing.
this ofcourse means that if you bring your oem modem back to usr it is going 
to
cost you them us money to get it fixed .. this leaves the oem reseller a tidy
profit vis a ve the cost of the support not provided. sadly a lot of oem
resellers rely on this very fact of user mentality to get thier 'profit
margins' .. cunning move actually
