I wrote this a few years ago and have used it ever since. I'd imagine that
some other folks also still use it, as I did receive some feedback about it
for a while after I first released it into the big wide world.
I'm not aware of any bugs...

CHEKMAIL doesn't do that. It just tells you that you have mail waiting.
However, I do have another "neat trick" up my sleeve, with another little
program:
MSGCPY11.LZH 30090 10-12-91 Save echomail addressed to local users
(Opus 1.70 & Fido V12)
To use this program you create a "Replies to Local Users" message area on
your system. The program scans through your echomail areas and copies all
messages addressed to local users (and not marked as "received") into your
replies message area. Then you run the CHEKMAIL program (or other
mail-waiting announcement utility) to tell users that they have mail waiting.
That way, your system can advise Mary Smith that she has messages 2,5,14,16
and 27 in Message Area 2. Each message may have originated in a different
echo, but she only has to go to Area 2 to read each of them. Replying to
them is another matter; I have made no provision for automatic posting of
replies back to the original echo. For purely personal reasons, I suppose.
I figure that if they can't be bothered to actually go into the echo to post
their reply, then their reply probably isn't worth posting.
The above cited programs are available here for file request 23 hours, if
anyone wants them or cares.
