WL> I remember photos of the North Shore Electroliners
WL>in their original configuration with trolley poles. Something
WL>like 100 mph service. Probably the rescued one at the Illinois
WL>museum still has trolley poles.
RA> If I recall correctly, the "Railways to Yesterday" trolley museum
RA> at Orbisonia, PA has an Electroliner (5 segment articulated super-
RA> interurban). This came equipped for 3rd-rail power, and had to be
RA> modified by adding 4 trolley poles (2 for each direction; this car
RA> has a VERY healty appetite!) to be run at the museum.
The Electroliners as built and as they ran on the North
Shore (Chicago, North Shore and Milwaukee Railroad) were equipped
with both trolley poles and 3rd rail shoes.
They traveled around the Loop on the Chicago El on 3rd
rail shoes, then shifted to trolley poles when they reached their
own (North Shore) trackage.
