RC> Uh... It's not a true 64 bit system... It's running two 32
RC> bit chips, I believe..
Ryan, you must be new here.
You are _extremely_ wrong, and this argument is _extremely_ old.
The heart of the Jaguar is the "TOM and JERRY" chipset. The TOM is a
compilation of three custom processors, one of which is 32 bit (the DRAM
controller), one of which is 32/64 bit (the Blitter), and the heart of
the unit, the Object Processor, is fully 64-bit.
"JERRY" is a 32-bit DSP, used for audio.
There is also a 16/32 bit 68000 in the Jaguar, that serves as a "link
up", and can be used for some quicky titles or simple games or effects
for programmers not yet comfortable with the Jag chipset, or for easing
the porting of existing 16 bit (SNES or Genesis) to the Jag.
The 68000 is also used to control all joypad input/output.
RC> Now, the Nintendo Ultra 64..coming in April...THAT'S a true 64
RC> bit system...
The Nintendo "P64" has some custom 64bit graphics processors at it's
heart, but it still must use 16/32-bit sound and 24/32-bit color... and
even if they use expensive "32bit EDO ram", it will never be "true"
64bit. And it certainly won't sell for $249... the price of a Jag with
CD.
