In this state, shooting ANYTHING at domestic animals is considered cruelty to 
animals and can lead to an arrest. Furthermore, there is a child here in 
critial condition who was shot in the chest with a pistol like that, and the 
authorities take a dim view of anyone using such a weapon anywhere but a 
pistol range.
There are all kinds of sprays and other deterrents available on the market to 
keep animals off your property.   There is no justification for anyone using 
dangerous means.
